The Soaring Club here at UTSI is designed to help students cheaply obtain an aircraft license and/or have a lot of fun learning to fly.  We own two training sailplanes, a Schleicher ASK-13 (two seat trainer) and a Schempp-Hirth Ka-8B (single seat).  We launch both planes via auto tow from a 1974 Pontiac GrandAm.  Our schedule permits us to fly from the beginning of March until the end of November.  All students, faculty and staff are welcome and encouraged to join.
The fees include a biannual membership fee of $40 for students($100 for non-students) and a charge of $5 per flight.  The Club does not charge instructor fees of any kind. Generally the club meets every Saturday at the Tullahoma Regional Airport at approximately 10:00am and will fly all afternoon.  We occasionally take trips to the gliderport in Eagleville or Chilhowee where aero-tows can be practiced.  Rates are then dependent on release altitude, but are on average $30 per flight, payable to the gliderport.
